The JRC multi-annual work programme 2007 to 2013 is the basis for the Unit current research. Its activities support the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technological Development.

The research activities of the Unit in FP7 are divided into 3 actions:

• Physical Vulnerability Assessment of Critical Structures (PVACS)
• Risk Prevention and Safety in Construction (SAFECONSTRUCT)
• Smart Tamper-Evident Container (STEC)
