Analysis of Cities using very high spatial resolution satellite data and mathematical morphology
The JRC-IPSC is co organising with UN-HABITAT from 15-17 February 2011 a workshop on the Analysis of Cities using very high spatial resolution satellite data and mathematical morphology in support of UN-HABITAT’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) reporting.
The JRC-IPSC has invited experts from UN-HABITAT headquarters in Nairobi (Kenya) and from 8 countries (Mexico, South Africa, Kenya, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam) to demonstrate the derivation of City relevant indicators such as building size, density and height from a combination of earth observation satellite data and algorithms developed by the JRC. In small working groups, the participants will link these indicators to other socio-economic information for each city. The results of this exercise will be the basis for a discussion of the contribution of the JRC approach in the MDG reporting and a possible way ahead.
