SETICS action

SETICS will contribute with anticipatory studies of science and technology for early identification, characterisation and deliberation of societal challenges arising from the research, development and deployment of IT specifically in the online environment (e.g. geo-localisation, social networks, web 3.0 and sensors, etc.). These studies will aim at anticipating social, ethical, cultural and legal issues that compromise the ideas of a trustful and secure digital agenda for Europe.

SETICS deploys methodologies arising from social sciences, namely social research methodologies (including experiential deliberation), anticipation and scenario development, media analysis, identification of ethical narratives and institutional analysis.

Ongoing activities at SETICS Action:

   - Methodological research:

      o Anticipation through plausibility assertions

o Experiential futuring – experiential deliberation methods

o On-line deliberation methods about future

o  Media roles in shaping science and technology, including narratives and portrays of IT security

   - Anticipation activities: horizon scan of IT that could need policy attention in a near future or be subject of thorough anticipation or foresight studies.
